The Position: To keep up with the organizations growth over the past few years, New Futures wishes to hire a Director of Development and Communications. This is a full time, work from home position for an experienced non-profit professional. Working with the Board of Directors and the Director of Program Operations, the Director will be responsible for fundraising, funds management, and general communications, both internal and external.

Because New Futures is a small organization which fulfills its mission with a small staff and a very active Board of Directors, much of the work is hands on and everyone pitches in to work towards the organizations goals. Initiative, drive and creativity as well as the ability to work with others are key attributes in the person we seek. Opportunity for growth and an increased leadership role may be available to the right person as the organization continues to grow and expand.

Major duties would include:

FUND RAISING:

- Working with the Boards Chairman of the Development Committee, create and implement an annual development plan and strategy

- With the help of the Development Committee, oversee the planning and execution of the annual benefit

- Research grant opportunities, and prepare and submit grant requests and grant reports to maintain and grow foundation and corporate support

- Manage the giving campaign, including the annual fall mailings to potential donors

- Implement new strategies for attracting new donors and expanding the amount of support from existing donors

FUNDS MANAGEMENT:

- Maintain donor/potential donor information, and track donations made throughout the year

- Utilize QuickBooks to track revenues and expenses, and to produce monthly financial reports for the board and for grant applications

- Serve as the contact point for the annual audit

- Interact with the Board Treasurer (who handles all bill payments, donations, and banking)

DONOR COMMUNICATIONS AND PUBLIC RELATIONS:

- Recommend optimal strategy for use of newsletters, brochures, annual report, and other PR materials, after reviewing current materials and their use to date; created new content as needed

- Maintain correspondence with potential and previous donors

- Update website and social network page updates

- Develop and implement a strategy for use of electronic and social media including email, Facebook, Twitter, etc. as deemed appropriate

INTERNAL COMMUNICATION / BOARD SUPPORT:

- Provide updates to the board regarding fundraising strategies and results

- Participate in Board meetings, Development Committee meetings, Strategic Planning Committee meetings and other key organizational functions as required.

- Support the board as needed by helping the President prepare for and conduct board meetings

- Maintain key organizational and Board materials

Note: The organization currently has a highly competent Director of Program Operations. Both Directors will report to the President of New Futures, who is also acting as Executive Director. Some support for the above tasks is available from a part-time Administrative Assistant, an active 15-member Board including a Development Director and a Treasurer, and volunteers helping with committee work.

Job Qualifications:

1. Bachelors degree and preferred three years of non-profit experience.

2. Grant writing and donor relations experience.

3. Excellent written and oral communication skills for preparing donor and public information documents.

4. Knowledge of contemporary software including the Microsoft suite of tools; ability and willingness to learn new tools. QuickBooks, WordPress, or InDesign experience a plus.

5. Excellent teamwork skills, allowing for close working relationships with the board and other staff members.

6. Attention to detail.

7. A willingness to undertake "hands on work and meet deadlines.

8. High energy, positive person eager to provide opportunities to deserving, low-income youth.

9. High degree of initiative and self-sufficiency.

10. Good leadership skills with the potential for further professional growth.

Compensation: approximately $50,000, depending on experience
