Student/Teen Jobs

Students and teens, summer is here, where will you be working? The entrepreneurial spirit is at its highest when you are young; take advantage of your youth and creativity to start a small business. Use your social networking and superb internet skills to market what you love to do. Graphic web designers are in high demand, so market those great skills you’ve learned, perhaps you have a gift of writing, there are tons of writing jobs on the web, some have age requirements, and others don’t. Or market those other talents you have by becoming a party planner or offer tutoring/ music lessons, the opportunities are endless, and people want your fresh approach and novel ideas. If none of these spark your interest than check out the paid internships below.

Just one word of caution, use the same common sense you would use on FB, MySpace, etc, when providing personal information to a prospective employer. If you do not have any information on the employer, other than a login site or email address, send an email of inquiry providing a summary of your qualifications, with your first initial and last name only. . Request they provide you with company details. Then you can research the company. Do not provide your home address, date of birth or social security number until you have verified this company.

Researching an organization can be done through:

Happy Monday everyone, hope everyone had a great weekend. Below are today's leads, a combination of customer service, non-phone, administrative, technical, writing, coding, and teaching. I'm going to begin posting spot light jobs periodically. These will be unique, FT, higher skilled, sometimes higher salaried jobs that are work from home. I find this quite encouraging because many of us who have worked from home for many years have changed or adapted our careers to suit working from home. Over the past month I'm seeing newer paths opening up for telecommuting. I believe with today's ever increasing technology, these areas will continue to expand, with the possibilites of wah continuing to develop.  This is great news for us all.

Selling yourself on your resume

Just finished reading an interesting article from MSN on how to sell yourself in five words. Here’s the link:>1=25049
I won't say I agree with all of this, but it did get me thinking.  For those regular followers of this blog you know I emphasize the skill set. For the new work from homers I will briefly recap, be certain your skill set jumps out and sells you as a candidate while staying relevant to the job you’re applying for.  Think of it as the link or qualification summary between you and the job description. Don’t get all caught up on the five word limit, just keep it attention grabbing and pertinent. Many large organizations using scanning software, if you’re resume is a match, you move on to step 2 in the interviewing process.

Here's a few examples:
Scenario # 1

Job:  Insurance Customer Service

Candidate A's experience: receptionist in a doctors office

Skill set:  Two year's customer service experience in a medical environment

Under the actual job you will provide more specific information.

Scenario #2
Job: Writer

Candidate B's Experience: Real Estate secretary who assisted in preparing/editing the weekly/monthly newsletter

Skills set: Contributor and editor to the ABC Company weekly newsletter

Once again, provide more specific details under the actual job

Most individuals have more experience than they realize. Even those fresh out of school, usually did some type of volunteer work that can be emphasized as an asset. The important thing to remember is to emphasize even the smallest skills when it is relevant to the job. Don’t fabricate a complete work history with no basis, if you make it through the interview, you will shortly realize you cannot do the job. On the other hand, if you enjoyed writing articles for your school or companies newsletter, go ahead and apply for that writers job. You are not going to know if this is the job for you unless you try. Retail store experience can be looked at as live customer service. Organizing a fundraising campaign for your child's soccer team is marketing experience.
When you are lucky enough to do something you enjoy, it shows.  A happy worker is a better worker, and employers, even virtual ones know this.  Now all you have to do is prepare that jump off the page skill set that says I'm just what you're looking for.

Another Researched Survey Company

As promised after research, I can now recommend another survey company, American Consumer Opinion. Very reputable, compensation is fair, and they responded to my emails. So far in the past 30 days, I completed 2 surveys at $5.00 each. I must admit, as is my nature, I was a bit skeptical, as this company takes a bit longer to post the survey credit to your account. My fears were totally unfounded, within 3 weeks of the survey I received credit, which I then requested a cash out (you can do so at anytime). Check arrived in about 3 days. The time frame works out quite well. You can request payment any time. No spam, no junk email, just notification when a survey is available. Another awesome thing with this company is they are open to fourteen years or older. Go to the right top column of my blog and you will find them under Demi’s Recommended Survey Sites. I do receive a very small compensation if you register, but I’m not recommending anything I haven’t tried myself, and been satisfied with the results. Another awesome thing with this company is they are open to fourteen years or older. Candidates accepted from many countries.

Remember surveys are not a job, they are something you can do while watching TV or if you're lucky enough to have downtime in between other jobs.  I actually find them fun and refreshing at times.  They can also be a money maker for teens/students.  In fact I do believe  companies love to hear young opinions.  I will continue to research these companies, but it is a slow process, so be patient with me.  As soon as I verify a company is legit, and payment arrives you'll hear about it.

Staying healthy while you work at home

This is a topic I can relate to personally. Between children, a disabled husband, cooking, doctors appointments, grocery shopping and a host of other errands, plus working, it is easy to neglect your own health. I’ve been guilty of going a hundred miles an hour and living on coffee.

So here’s a check list of what we all should do, to stay healthy and not burn out.

• Drink plenty of water, just because the espresso machine is within reach of your laptop, don’t overdo the caffeine. In the afternoon try having a piece of fruit for the late day pick me up.

• Take regular and frequent breaks. This means getting up from the computer and taking a walk. If you can get outside, awesome, but it not, throw a load of laundry on, not exactly fun, but it changes the scenery and works a different set of muscles.

• Eat healthy even while you’re working. Start with a healthy breakfast, I like yogurt, but whatever works for you. Make a lunch for yourself in the morning or the night before, so you have a healthy lunch ready. It’s too easy to grab the box of cookies or leftover pizza, because you don’t have time to make lunch.

• It’s tempting, especially if you freelance, to work any and all times. This can be fine, but you can neglect your family/spouse/pets if you’re not careful. There’s also burnout and isolation. Try to set times when you do not work, be it holidays, extended weekends or just one day a week. Make it time for you and your loved ones. Spend time off of your computer, get out of the house and have real world interactions. Have lunch with your mom, sister, the ladies from church, or take the dog or kids to the park, and make it a point to talk to someone. Spring is here (or in my case summer); spend a Saturday visiting yard sales, flea markets, your local museum or go to a lake or the beach. Any of these things will rejuvenate you.

• Develop a regular exercise routine. You’re sitting all or part of the day at your computer. Your short walk to the laundry room is not going to be enough, get a regular routine going.

• Just because you work from home, don’t assume you’ll never catch another cold or flu virus again. Take your vitamins; get your annual checkup and flu shot if needed.

• Finally, scientists have noted that one of the most germ filled areas is your computer keyboard, telephone headset, and surrounding areas. Be sure to clean your work at home space frequently. I vacuum the whole surface, then wipe everything down with alcohol.

English Poet Leigh Hunt said: “the groundwork of all happiness is health.”
