Job Description
SUMMARY
The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) and its signatory employers established the Finishing Trades Institute to provide ongoing education and training for all of our union members. Our mission is to continue to set the standard of excellence in the various trades our members represent. With this goal in mind, FTI curriculum and training centers constantly evolve to remain at the cutting edge of our trades.
The Finishing Trades Institute (FTI) headquartered in Hanover, MD currently has two open positions for Curriculum Specialist. The Curriculum Specialist position will report directly to the Director of Curriculum and Instruction. The primary duty of the FTI Curriculum Department is to develop, review, and update the curricular needs of the IUPAT. In an effort to stay current with industry standards, the FTI is committed to partnering with manufacturers to provide state of the art curriculum and training for its members. It is the goal of the FTI to develop at least one new training course each year for each of the trades the IUPAT represents. The staff members of the FTI and selected manufactures work in collaboration to develop instructional materials that are current and based on industry standards.
The successful candidate will be a high energy, proactive, and customer service-oriented individual with excellent interpersonal skills. The candidate will be an approachable, open-minded, team player who is comfortable working collaboratively. The Curriculum Specialist is a key position for the future success of the FTI. Initiative, creativity, and outstanding written and verbal communication skills are a must. The ability to interact well with executives and staff at all levels is required to succeed.
The primary responsibility of the Curriculum Specialist is to support the Curriculum and Instruction Department by designing and re-designing instructor and student learning resources for the trades that the FTI represents.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Provide design input to Curriculum and Instruction Department
* Build relationships with subject matter experts to provide guidance in the development and deployment of content and learning materials
* Implements and manages curriculum standards, polices, and procedures
* Gain and maintain understanding of initiatives and trends in the construction industry in order to ensure training content meets industry needs
* Stay abreast of new resources and tools to continuously improve educational content delivery
* Assists with FTI Training preparation as needed
* Manages and monitors special curriculum projects as needed
* Perform other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
* Knowledge of content development tools
* Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design
* Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
* Ability to communicate effectively and professionally
* Communicate effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
* Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work effectively / efficiently, independently or with minimal supervision
* Strong customer service skills, including the ability to remain flexible in continually changing situations
* Ability to work with members and all staff levels
* Excellent customer service, and oral communications skills
* Punctuality and good attendance is required
* Professional appearance
* Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point,
* Beginner to intermediate knowledge of Abode 9, web browser, and email
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Education, Content Design or Training. Five years related experience in a similar role preferred. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Experience with integrating technology into the curriculum writing process preferred. Computer literate. Union experienced preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Lifting of light boxes may be required in the course of organizing and distributing work in the office. Flexible work hours maybe required to meet departmental deadlines.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Use of the computer for approximately 80% of the day. Forty hours (40) will constitute a standard work week however, additional hours maybe required to complete assigned task as identified by Director of Curriculum and Instruction and/ or designee. Employee will be required to work at the physical FTI office (Hanover, MD) a minimum of one (8 hour day) per week to a maximum of five (8 hour days) per week. Work from home option available for this position, however weekly schedules must be pre-approved by Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Optional flex start times as pre-approved by Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Dress code is business professional. Ability to travel as needed.
